The Northwest Skyraiders club has been around for a good many years.
Originally it was the Seattle Skyraiders, formed in the late 1950's. Our
club is a control line only type of flying. We are a charter member club
of the Academy of Model
Aeronautics (AMA Charter 330). Most of our members are
between 35-75 years of age. We meet once a month, currently in Auburn, for
our club meeting (hangar talk and coffee) and plan for our fun-flys, contests and
shows that we attend in the United States, Canada, and other countries.

We have many types of model interests, combat, carrier, scale, racing,
and of course modern stunt and old time along with classic stunt.
Old Time Stunt and Classic Stunt are becoming very popular. They are probably
the model planes you saw as a kid, other than the old plastic Cox planes that didn't last long. Well now is your chance to do it again or just get started now! |
Model airplanes are rapidly becoming a healthy outlet for kids of all
ages whether they be 10 years old or 100. We are all kids at heart
and the pride and satisfaction that comes from building a plane yourself
and seeing it fly cannot be matched. We strive to bring the hobby
to everyone. |

Control Line Flying need not be expensive. A typical plane and
supplies can run as low as $150. Of course you can spent as little
or as much as you wish or need to, but the costs are minimal compared to
many other hobbies. Kits average $40-$75, engines $50-$100, accessories
(wheels, fuel tank, glue, paints, tools, etc) $50, and of course the fuel and control
lines to complete the package at $50. |
NW Skyraider's dues are modest at $30/ 1st year (a NW Skyraiders Travel Coffee Mug is included), $25 for renewal. AMA membership is required because we are an AMA Chartered Club...for extra liability insurance and other benefits. AMA dues at $58 ($53 for those over 65), ($15 for those under 19 as of July 1, $1 without magazine subscription), AMA dues pay for a monthly magazine and insurance coverage of over $2 million dollars in case of an accident.
We can help set you up and meet with other members to learn more about
this fascinating hobby. Just contact us for more information.
